Docker Hosting

Docker hosting provides a managed container runtime for applications packaged as Docker images. Instead of configuring a specific language runtime, you provide a Dockerfile or docker-compose.yml that defines your application environment, and SteboHost runs it on a managed VPS or shared container environment. This gives you full control over the operating system, system libraries and runtime versions inside the container. This hosting is for teams running microservice architectures with multiple containers, legacy applications that need to be containerised without code changes, self-hosted CI/CD runners, and multi-stack applications that combine different languages or runtimes in a single deployment. If your application is already containerised, this is the most direct path to production. What makes SteboHost different is that we handle the infrastructure layer around your containers. We manage the container runtime, configure networking between containers, set up volumes for persistent data, define health checks and restart policies, and provision SSL on the domains you route to your containers. Container logs and resource usage — CPU and memory sampled every minute from cgroups — are visible in the portal. You bring the Dockerfile; we bring the operational expertise. Deploy via Git push with a Dockerfile in the repository, or via a private image registry with credentials stored as encrypted environment variables.

Why Docker Hosting

Why developers choose SteboHost for docker hosting

Specific reasons — not generic marketing claims.

Bring your own Dockerfile

You define the exact environment your application needs — OS, libraries, runtime versions, system packages. We do not impose a buildpack or runtime. If it runs in Docker on your laptop, it runs on SteboHost with the same configuration.

Multi-container orchestration

docker-compose.yml is fully supported. Each service runs as a managed container with its own health checks, restart policies and resource limits. Networking between containers is configured automatically so they can communicate by service name.

Private registry authentication via environment variables

Deploy from a private Docker registry — Docker Hub, GitHub Container Registry, Amazon ECR or your own registry. Credentials are stored as encrypted environment variables and injected at pull time, never written to disk.

Persistent volumes

Data that must survive container restarts and redeployments is stored on persistent volumes. We configure the volume mounts, so database files, uploads and application state are not lost on redeploy.

Honest resource allocation

Each container gets explicit CPU and memory limits defined in your docker-compose.yml or the portal, enforced by cgroups. No vague "unlimited" claims — you know exactly what resources each container can use and can plan capacity accordingly.

How it works

From repository to production in five steps

The deployment workflow, end to end — visible, automated and reversible.

1

Provide your Dockerfile

Commit a Dockerfile or docker-compose.yml to your repository, or provide a private image registry path. We detect the Docker configuration and prepare the build environment. No buildpack or runtime assumptions are made.

2

Build or pull the image

On every push, we build the image from your Dockerfile or pull it from your private registry. Build logs stream in real time, showing each layer and any build errors. For image-based deploys, we pull the tagged image using your encrypted credentials.

3

Configure networking and volumes

We set up container networking so multi-container apps can communicate by service name. Persistent volumes are mounted for data that must survive restarts. The reverse proxy is configured to route traffic to your container's exposed port.

4

Health checks and start

Your container starts with the health check defined in your Dockerfile or compose file. The runtime monitors the health check and restarts the container if it fails. SSL is provisioned on the domain you route to the container.

5

Rollback to previous image

Every deployment creates a versioned image. If a release fails its health check or causes errors, click rollback in the portal. The previous image starts immediately — no rebuild, no re-pull if the image is cached locally.

Use cases

What people build with Docker Hosting

Common workloads our customers run on this stack.

Microservices

Multi-container architectures with API gateways, databases and message queues. Each service runs in its own container with health checks and resource limits. docker-compose orchestrates the services and networking is configured automatically.

Legacy apps

Containerise legacy applications and run them without modifying the codebase. Package the exact OS, library versions and runtime the application expects into a Dockerfile, and run it on managed infrastructure without touching the original code.

CI/CD runners

Self-hosted GitLab runners, GitHub Actions runners or custom CI infrastructure. Run your own CI infrastructure on a managed VPS with full control over the runner environment, cached dependencies and build tools.

Multi-stack apps

Apps combining multiple languages or runtimes in a single deployment. A PHP frontend, a Python API and a Redis cache can all run as containers in the same docker-compose deployment, communicating over the internal network.

Developer plans

Transparent pricing, honest limits

Every plan publishes its exact resources. No burst limits buried in a footnote.

Performance

Built for speed, not benchmarks

Concrete performance guarantees — not vague promises.

Explicit resource limits

Each container gets CPU and memory limits defined in your docker-compose.yml or the portal, enforced by the kernel's cgroup controller. This prevents one container from starving others and gives you predictable performance under load. On VPS plans, limits can be adjusted per container.

CDN caching for static content

Static content served by your containers — images, CSS, JavaScript — is cached by the built-in CDN layer. Fingerprinted assets get immutable cache headers and the cache is purged automatically on every deploy, so containers spend their CPU on dynamic requests instead of static files.

Container metrics every minute

CPU and memory usage per container is sampled every minute from cgroups and shown as sparklines in the portal. Trends surface runaway processes and memory leaks before they hit limits, and container logs stream alongside the metrics.

Health check monitoring

Health checks defined in your Dockerfile or compose file are polled continuously. If a container fails its health check, it is restarted automatically and you are alerted. Deployed images are cached locally, so rollbacks start instantly without re-pulling.

Security

Security is included, not optional

SSL, isolation, backups and monitoring — on every plan.

Automatic SSL termination

SSL certificates are provisioned and renewed automatically on every domain routed to your containers. The reverse proxy terminates SSL before forwarding traffic, so your containers receive plain HTTP and do not need to manage certificates.

Web application firewall with the OWASP Core Rule Set

Traffic to your containers passes through the built-in web application firewall running the OWASP Core Rule Set — SQL injection, XSS and brute-force protection in detection or prevention mode, with per-deployment custom rules and a blocked-request log. For DDoS absorption at the network edge, put Cloudflare in front of your domain.

Encrypted registry credentials

Private registry credentials are stored as encrypted environment variables and injected at pull time. They are never written to disk in plaintext, never exposed in logs and never visible to other environments on the same server.

Container isolation

Each container runs in its own namespace with isolated filesystem, process space and network, with cgroup limits preventing one container from starving another. One container cannot access another's files, environment variables or memory.

Migration

Migrating to SteboHost

Move your existing application without downtime or data loss.

From any Docker host

If you are running containers on a raw VPS, a cloud provider or on-premises, bring your Dockerfile or docker-compose.yml and deploy it on SteboHost. Your container configuration works without changes — we handle the runtime and networking.

From Kubernetes

We do not offer managed Kubernetes, but if you are simplifying from K8s, we can help translate your Helm charts or K8s manifests into a docker-compose setup. For complex orchestration needs, talk to us about a custom deployment plan.

Image registry migration

Point SteboHost at your existing private registry by adding credentials as encrypted environment variables. We pull the same images you already build, so there is no need to rebuild or re-push images to a new registry.

Free migration support

Contact support@stebohost.com or call +254 703 610 464 for migration assistance at no extra cost. We help with Dockerfile review, compose configuration, volume setup, SSL provisioning and DNS cutover.

Docker Hosting questions, answered

The details that matter when choosing a hosting provider.
